Why Solmara exists

Solmara started from a small and slightly boring observation: most women do not have a wardrobe problem, they have a matching problem. There is a coat that works and a knit that works and a pair of trousers that works, and none of the three were bought with the other two in mind. Every morning turns into a small negotiation with a rail of things that do not quite agree with each other.

So the range is built the other way round. Pieces are chosen against what is already here rather than on their own merits, which sounds obvious and almost nobody does it. A coat is only taken on if the knitwear fits underneath it. Trousers are only taken on if the coats already in the range fall cleanly over them. The result is a smaller range than it could be, and one where far more of it works together.

There is no founding myth attached to any of this. Solmara is a shop, not a story, and it would rather earn a second order than tell you where it was dreamed up.

Mission

To make getting dressed a shorter decision. Everything Solmara carries is meant to reduce the number of things you have to think about before you leave the house, not add to them. A wardrobe should work like a set of tools that fit the same hand.

That means saying no often. It means not carrying a piece because it will photograph well, and not adding a category because the shop looks bigger with one. The measure of a good season here is how much of the range a customer can wear together, not how many pieces went up.

Vision

We want Solmara to be the shop a woman checks first, not the one she finds after an hour of scrolling. That means being predictable in the right way: the sizes read the same across the range, the descriptions say what the photographs show, and the delivery estimate is the one you actually get.

Where the industry moves toward more drops, more urgency and more noise, we would rather move the other way. Fewer pieces, held longer, described plainly. If that means being a quieter shop than the one next to us, that is a trade we are happy to make.

How the range is chosen

Every piece goes through the same three checks before it is listed.

• Season and demand. The range is weighted to what the coming months in the United Kingdom actually need. Solmara opened into an autumn, which is why outerwear and knitwear lead the range and swimwear is deliberately thin rather than absent.
• The photographs. Every product is looked at on the model before a word is written about it. The cut, the neckline, the sleeve, the length and the way the cloth falls all come from the images. If a feature is not visible in the photographs, it does not appear in the description.
• Consistency across the range. Colour names, size notation and category naming are made to match across every product, so that a colour called one thing on a coat is called the same thing on the knit meant to go under it.

Pieces that fail any of the three are left out. Several were.

What we can promise, and what we cannot

We can promise the things that are ours to control. Shipping is free on every United Kingdom order with no minimum. Orders are picked in 1-2 business days and carried in 5-8 business days, giving a total of 6-10 business days. You have 30 days from delivery to send something back, exchanges are available, and refunds are issued within 7 days of the return arriving back to the original payment method. Support answers Monday to Friday, 9AM to 5PM GMT/BST (UK time).

We cannot promise what a carrier does with a parcel in bad weather, and we will not pretend otherwise by quoting a delivery date we have no way of holding. Where an estimate is an estimate, this site says so.
